You Need Insurance For Strangers

May 26, 2017

You have your own insurance. There is an Alabama law which requires that everyone who drives must have liability insurance. So why do you need to pay for insurance covering the guy who doesn’t have any?

It is because you live in one of the worst areas for uninsured motorists in the nation.

Some estimates put uninsured motorists in Alabama at 25 percent. In 2015, Alabama was ranked in the top 10 for the highest percentage of uninsured drivers in the country.   So look to your right, to your left and behind you …. one of you does not have insurance. With that knowledge, we should be afraid to drive anywhere. But we do.

So if you get hit who is going to pay for your hospital bills, lost wages and, perhaps more importantly to some folk, fixing the truck?  Well, probably not the guy with no insurance. He may go to jail but that doesn’t help you.

I can get you money, if he has some, but as good a lawyer as I am, my mother gives me very high marks, I cannot create money where none exists. Uninsured/underinsured motorists’ coverage will protect you from the slime balls without insurance.  It stands to reason they are not the safest drivers anyway.

Here is the big secret I want to share with you. Uninsured motorist insurance is remarkably cheap. Really. “Tens of dollars” per year can get you “hundreds of thousands of dollars” of coverage.

One more big secret. The amount of insurance that Alabama requires is far too little if you are seriously hurt in a car wreck. That is the underinsured part of uninsured/underinsured motorists’ coverage.

I have a lot of success stories in my case file and some of the best are those people smart enough to have insurance on the other guy.

If you are injured, you can talk to us at  Eiland and Ritchie  for free. There is no charge unless we collect for you. We want to help you get back on your feet.
