What Is My Car Wreck Worth?

Allen Ritchie • March 19, 2021

I know why you ask, “What is my case worth?” I would ask the same, and I wish there were an easy answer. But there isn’t. The value of a case depends on many, many, many different elements. After a lengthy investigation, I can usually give you an idea, but every case is unique.

However, if you want to get a jump start on me, I will give you some of the areas to consider.

Here are the situations in which you can generally expect payment.

  • Disfigurement and Permanent Physical Disability

Though this may sound harsh, it will probably not surprise you that loss of a limb or permanent loss of mobility pays more.

  • Physical Suffering

Again, this will not surprise you, but if you have a head injury or broken back, you will receive more than if you have a few bruises.

  • Lost Wages

If you cannot work because of your injuries, you can generally expect money for your lost salary.

  • Medical Bills

Not just doctors’ bills. For example, additional payments can cover hospitals, medicine, wheelchairs, and future medical care.

  • Emotional Damages

These can include, among other things, depression, grief, insomnia, and, yes, loss of spousal affection.

  • Value of your Vehicle

Generally, you are entitled to the difference between what your car was worth before the accident and what it is worth now.

All that might sound like it can add up to a lot of money. And it can. However, remember that if you are even 1% to blame in Alabama, you cannot collect for any damages. That is right – if you are even a little at fault, you get ZERO. I probably fight with insurance companies more over this percentage than anything else. It is the major reason why you need a lawyer in this state, and you do not want to go it alone.

If you suffer a personal injury like an auto accident or slip and fall, you can talk to us at the Law Firm of Eiland and Ritchie for free. We want to help you get back on your feet. We are mostly working remotely but are always available.
