Be Safe: Alabama Traffic Deaths Up

Play it smart this New Year’s Eve.

You know better than to drink and drive, but our state is also experiencing increased motor vehicle deaths and injuries because of such things as texting and driving. Despite a number of people staying home because of the pandemic, this could be the deadliest New Year’s Eve in Alabama history.

Alabama law is strict on those who drink and drive. It could cost you thousands of dollars, not to mention jail time.

Take a few minutes to consider:

  • Have a designated driver . It is just too risky to drive intoxicated. My advice is – even if you have a moderate amount to drink, don’t get on the road.
  • Call a driver service like Uber . Hey, up your tech knowledge – after all, it is almost 2022. Get an app and let someone else take you home.
  • Listen to your body . If you feel even a little dizzy or less in control, tell someone. There is no shame in getting a ride. There could be more shame if you have to call someone to get you out of jail.
  • Put the phone down . You cannot safely drive and hit up social media. Even if you never take a drop of liquor, you should not take your eyes off the road for even a moment. Whatever you want to text will wait.
