Camp Lejeune Final Deadline Fast Approaching

Allen Ritchie • June 7, 2024

Question : Camp Lejeune. Is there a deadline?

Jason: Yes, in roughly TWO MONTHS. So, do not wait to make a Camp Lejeune claim.  Let me repeat – do NOT wait.  you only have until August 10th of this year.

If you know someone hurt by the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune, please tell them to see an attorney now. If you have ever dealt with the government, you know that if you miss a deadline, it is doubtful that you will ever collect any money.

Here is some background. From 1953 through 1987, the water at Camp Lejeune was filled with dangerous chemicals. This action caused severe medical trouble for adults and children on the base. Those affected include Marines, civilian workers, families, and even veterans. Medical problems centered around cancers as well as other tragic conditions like miscarriages. It is estimated that 1 million people may be affected.

The U.S. government has set aside billions of dollars to compensate these individuals and their families. However, some experts believe the claims may amount to trillions of dollars.

As of my writing, only about a fourth of those expected to file have indeed filed for the government money.

Please take some time to ask at your workplace, church, or civic organization whether there are people who can claim this money. We have many military people in our area. I am sure some of them spent at least 30 days at Camp Lejeune during the exposure period. At the very least, have your friends find out if they qualify. They can talk to us for free.

Please do not be embarrassed. You have the right to know if this toxic water caused your medical trouble. The government admits the problem exists. They allocated this money to help you. Please claim it before the cut-off date.

Here is another thing to know. A family can also file. If your loved one died from one of the many medical problems identified as caused by the water, they can collect.

We at Steele Ritchie have long supported veterans and their families. Call us, and we will guide you through this complicated filing process. The call will cost you nothing.
