Help a Camp Lejeune Victim

Allen Ritchie • July 29, 2022

Do you know someone from Camp Lejeune? Are they suffering, perhaps from a mysterious illness?

Step up and help them get to a lawyer.

Contaminated water at the Marine Corp Base from 1953 to 1987 has caused thousands of people to suffer. Now, the federal government is considering compensation payouts to those injured by the pollution.

Since I wrote about this last week, calls have been coming into my office. People want to know what and who is going to be covered. Though Congress has not approved the final legislation, here is what I think is most likely.

For the people covered, I would say there is no argument that injured Marines and other military personnel, including guardsmen and reservists, will be compensated. Then there are also the military family members, civilian employees, and all the people who provide services to these men and women.

As to the illnesses and other forms of suffering, here is a partial list:

  • Birth Defects/Injuries
  • Cancer – Breast, Ovarian, Bladder, Cervical, Kidney, Liver, Esophageal, Lung, and Stomach
  • Myeloma
  • Adult Leukemia
  • Bone Marrow Problems
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Miscarriage
  • Renal Toxicity
  • Death

If you were at Camp Lejeune anytime from the 1950s to the 1980s, it is almost impossible not to have come in contact with the contaminated water. It was used at offices, homes, barracks, schools, rec areas, and even the camp hospital.

Want to help? Go back over your family and friends’ history. If a cousin who lived there had a miscarriage, if a friend told you about his child’s illness, or if you had an uncle or aunt die after leaving Camp Lejeune, they or their surviving family need to contact a lawyer.

Let me add that waiting is rarely good in a legal case. They need to do it now.

If you suffer a personal injury, like contaminated water, an auto/railroad wreck, or a slip and fall, you can talk to us at the Law Firm of Eiland and Ritchie for free. We want to help you get back on your feet.
